Monocarpic-perennial subshrub leaves rosette growing 40-180 cm long, from a short woody bole that can be up to 1 m long 

Ornamental. medicinal. A strong, good quality fiber is obtained from the leaves. It is thinner and softer than sisal. The fiber is usable for ropes and sacks. The long, soft fiber is used alone or with other fibers in twine, sacks, hammocks, and other products.
