Description: Semi deciduous tree growing up to 30 – 50 m tall leaves bipinnate, divided into 20-30 or more leaflets pinnae flower showy, fragrant, Pear-shaped, pendant clusters of tiny white and yellow flowers bloom in spring and hang from the branches on sturdy stalks up to 35 cm long fruit legume  pod up to 36 cm long, contains up to 21 hard, black seeds

Soil: Tree bean flourishes well in sandy, loam, podzolic soil and in close proximity of river banks

Ornamental plant. Cultivated  for food and wood. The young, tender pods and seeds can be cooked and eaten. Commonly planted as a shade tree in home gardens and coffee plantations. The pods, pounded with water, are used as a hair shampoo
