Deciduous tree  grow up to 9-21 m high, leaves bipinnately compound, leaflets elliptic to lanceolate flowers greenish yellow to greenish white pods flattened, dark purplish-brown, seedpods contain numerous flattened, round seeds surrounded by a sweet, sticky pulp Gledistsia triacanthos var inermis ((no thorns and in many cases no seedpods make them preferred landscape plants)

A thorn less  and nearly seedless form that is recommended for lawns and streets.
