Deciduous tree grow up to 7-20 m tall spreading canopy trunk pale grey to white leaves leathery, opposite flowers yellowish cream-colored, fragrant fruit 4--winged, yellowish green and turn pale red when mature

Shade tree. Root bark that is boiled in water is used for tanning leather. The gum that exudes from damaged areas on the stem is edible. The tree has special cultural and religious importance to the Ovambo people of Nambia.
