Big tree, with a large trunk and fairly large buttresses, grow up to 6-40 m tall, 80 cm -15 m in diameter, covered with prickles Leaves palmate 3-5 oblong or obovate glabrous leaflets flowers white fruit a woody, capsule  that upon bursting frees soft brown vegetable wool enclosing 30-120 small, brown seeds

Ornamental plant. used in furniture, guitar marking, and other fine woodcrafts. The interest in and planting of red ceiba is restricted to its natural distribution. It was trialed in the Solomon Islands but did not show any promise as a plantation species. Shade or shelter: In other occasions, the trees have been left standing to give shade in coffee
