Deciduous tree or shrub grow up to 2-9 m high leaves  ovate to lanceolate, with short petioles, 9 cm long, pointed ends, smooth green above, blue-green beneath flowers pinkish, male, female or hermaphrodite, appear in clusters 12 cm long panicles fruit numerous,  yellow, waxy, crisp and juicy, oblate 6-8 ribs

Ornamental plant. traditional medicine for the treatment of a wide range of ailments. fruit edible. The root bark is used in tanning. leaves cooked as a vegetable, neutral or mild in flavour, but somewhat fibrous.
