Deciduous tree grows up to about 20 m tall bark grey-blackish leaves 12-23 cm long, 4-12 cm broad flowers yellowish white, fleshy, drooping near the end of branches fruit 25-5 cm long, yellowish when ripened 

Ornamental plant. Flower sheds when it gets mature at dawn. Fresh mahua Flowers are sweet in taste and contain different phytochemicals. Traditionally, the fresh flowers are collected and dried under direct sunlight for 2-3 days and stored in gunny bags in normal environment.
