Deciduous tree up to 20 m tall bark grey, reddish brown or dark red leaves simple, clustered at the end of branchlets, 10-25 cm long, 6-12 cm wide, apex acute, base round flowers bisexual, cream, axillary fruit a berry, ovoid, greenish, fleshy, containing from one to four shiny, brown seeds
