Evergreen tree grows up to 30 m tall, produces aerial roots, growing into woody trunks once reach the ground leaves thick and glossy, arranged spirally, 10-30cm long and 4-15 cm wide leaf stipules pink to purplish fruits borne in pairs, ellipsoid shaped, measuring 1-2 cm in diameter

•It is grown as an ornamental tree in all tropical regions and is a very popular indoor plant all round the world. A latex is obtained from the bark of the stem and larger branches. This can be used for all applications of natural rubber, such as tires, rubber components for cars and machines and consumer products such as footwear, sport goods, toys and gloves.

•Traditionally, the latex is used to line baskets of split rattan, to make them watertight, and has sundry other applications.
