Medium to large deciduous tree 8-30 m high trunk prickles in opposite pairs, short, broad and hooked leaves bipinnate flowers in long slender spikes, cream to pale yellow, the calyces showing red before the flowers open The pods are long, up to 25cm, flat and hairless
