Semi deciduous shrub or small tree 12 m tall leaves simple, opposite, cuneate at base,  margin entire flowers in cymes, yellow-orange turning reddish brown fruit  consisting of 2 ellipsoid follicle

The plant is sometimes harvested from the wild for local medicinal use. It is sometimes sold as a rare ornamental because of its striking orange-brown flowers.
