Semi deciduous shrub or small tree , multi stemmed up to 16 m tall, 30 cm in diameter leaves 4-20 cm long, and have orange petioles, flowers white  in axillary and terminal racemes and panicles 20-40 cm long fruits red to black sub globose drupes 7-10mm in diameter

•The tree is harvested from the wild for local use as a food, medicine and source of a good quality wood. The wood is especially valued for making musical instruments, and the plant is often also grown as an ornamental.
