Deciduous tree grow up to 15 m tall, 2 m in diameter, trunk  armed leaves  palmate, compound, light green, leaflets lanceolate flowers white to pale  yellow fruit ovoid, capsules, 20 cm long, which contain bean-sized black seeds surrounded by a mass of fibrous, fluffy matter reminiscent of cotton or silk

Ornamental plant. A fiber obtained from the bark is of good quality. It is used to make cloth. The white wood is very light, soft, weak and porous. It shrinks and splits considerably when drying. It has been used to replace cork in many of its uses and can also be pulped to make paper. It is also used to manufacture barrels for the carriage of dry goods
