Semi deciduous tree, growing to 10-20 m tall  leaves pinnate , 3-8 pairs of leaflets flowers yellow in pendulous racemes fruit legume 30-60 cm long

Soil: sandy and loamy soils, though it does better on calcareous soils and red volcanic soils

Ornamental plant . The fruit pulp is considered a purgative, and self-medication or any use without medical supervision is strongly advised against in Ayurvedic texts. Though it has been used in herbalist for millennia, little research has been conducted in modern times, although it is an ingredient in some mass-produced herbal laxatives. When used as such, it is known as "cassia pods“. Wood very durable, strong.
