Evergreen tree , monoecious, up to 20 m, 80 cm in diameter leaves thin- leathery and obovate- elliptic to elliptic flowers unisexual, minute, yellowish-green The fruits grow on a long and thick stem on the trunk They vary in size and ripen from an initially yellowish-greenish to yellow, and then at maturity to yellowish-brown

Soil: sandy loam, loam or sandy clay loam best in deep, well-drained, alluvial and sandy or loamy soils

When fruit is ripe, it can be eaten fresh or made into various delicacies, chutney, jam, jelly and paste. It can also be preserved as candies, by mixing with sugar, honey, or syrup.
