Large evergreen conifer to 30-45 m tall branches long, pendent,, branchlets clustered in whorls leaves spirally arranged, needle-like, non-imbricate, lanceolate, flattened, without a midrib male cone in group of 15-20, 12 cm wide on high branches, female cone on branches high from the ground, erect, elliptic, 45-5  kilos in weight and contain up to 150 seeds

Soil: Rich volcanic soils in moist valleys at low elevations near the coast Performs best on rich, free-draining clay-loam, loam, sandy-loam and loamy-sand soils

•Edible Uses: Seed - raw, cooked or ground into a powder. Starchy and delicious, it has the texture of a waxy boiled potato with the flavour of chestnuts. Large, it is an important food source for the Australian Aborigines
