Very fast growing deciduous tree to 15-20 m tall, 50-100 cm in diameter leaves bipinnate, leaflets oblong to elliptic- oblong15-65 cm long and 05-35 cm wide flowers fragrant, inflorescence a terminal or axillary fruit pod 15-30 cm long and 25-50 cm broad, containing 6- 12 seeds

Soil: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils, prefers well-drained soil and can grow in nutritionally poor soil Prefers moist soil

Used as an ornamental and avenue tree, and sometimes as a shade tree in coffee, cocoa and tea.  The flowers are pollinated by Bees, Insects. It can fix Nitrogen
