Deciduous shrub or small tree to 3-4 m tall, the shoots are zig-zagged, with a leaf and two stipular spines leaves oval 2-5 cm long , 1-4 cm broad, glossy green, flowers  yellow, fruit a dry woody nutlet centred in a circular wing 2-35 cm diameter

The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine and a food. It is grown as an ornamental, where it has a long history of use as a hedge
