Evergreen tree with an oval or pyramidal crown, to 20-40 m high trunk grey or dark  brown, deeply fissured leaves compound with each leaflet dissected into 11 - 21 small lobes  Young foliage is silvery and tomentose flowers orange- yellow, arranged in horizontal spike  inflorescences 12 cm long fruit egg-shaped follicles, seeds flat and oval

Ornamental plant. The flowers are one of the richest sources of nectar. An excellent  agroforestry species as it interferes little with crops. Best growth is obtained when it is planted in  rows or intermixed with crop. The leaves are used as a mulch.
