Evergreen shrub or tree to1-5 m tall, dioecious, leaves compound, alternate,  with 5-7 pairs, deep green leaflets flowers  very small fruit a drupe , first red and then black when ripe, about 4 mm in diameter

Ornamental plant. Cultivated for its Aromatic resin. The fruit, although not commonly consumed, is edible and has a tart raisin-like flavour.
