 Deciduous tree to 25-30 m  tall, trunk cylindrical 3 m across Leaves: palmately compound 9-11 leaflets  Flowers  before leaves appear, white, again to yellow fruit large, rounded to ovoid, seeds kidney-shaped within an edible pulp

Ornamental plants. The seeds and the vitamin C-rich fruit pulp are eaten fresh, and cooking oil is extracted from the oil-rich seeds. The fruit is either collected from the ground, or wooden pegs are hammered into the trunk so the tree can be climbed to collect the fruit.
