Evergreen shrub or small tree up to 4 - 12 m high leaves opposite, ovate to obovate flowers white or cream, in terminal cymes 6-7 cm long fruits conical, bright red or orange, 7-20 mm long

Ornamental plant . It is occasionally cultivated in Africa for its fruit which is mainly consumed by the Asian community there.
