Evergreen small erect shrub up to 25-4 m tall leaves alternate, very variable in size, 2-10 cm long, sometimes revolute leaflets 3-5, coriaceous, dark green above, paler beneath flower  yellow,  in terminal  corymbose cymes fruit berry simple

Ornamental plant,  the leaves are used as a condiment. A tea is made from the leaves and bark.
