Solitary palms, trunk 15m tall, 25 cm in diameter leaves  large, flat and rounded divided ¼-1/3 into many stiff-tipped segments  inflorescences are composed of 1-4 panicles, shorter than the petioles in length flowers yellow golden fruit spherical10 cm in diameter                               

ornamental palm. The leaves have been harvested from the wild for use as fans, whilst the stems have been used as ridge beams. The plant is much grown in ornamental gardens.
