Solitary palm, dioecious palm, up to 17 m tall leaves fan-shaped (costapalmate) about 15 m long,  silvery waxy appearance male and female inflorescence are produced on different individuals fruits are woody and large , oblong shaped or pear shaped, 6 cm long, 4 cm wide

Ornamental Palm. fruits are edible after being soaked or grinded, and then the powder is used for preparation of the doum drinks. Leaves can be used for thatching, hats,  mats & baskets. The trunk can be a source for timber for light construction.
