Large thorny, straggling shrub branches armed with hooks and straight hard yellow leaves double compound, with 7 pairs of pinnae and each with 3-8 pairs of leaflets flowers yellow in dense long-stalked racemes fruits flat, covered  with wiry prickles, seeds 1-2 per pod 
Medicinal plant. seeds oil used for cooking. The plant is believed to be poisonous in large doses. This species has a symbiotic relationship with certain soil bacteria, these bacteria form nodules on the roots and fix atmospheric nitrogen. Some of this nitrogen is utilized by the growing plant but some can also be used by other plants growing nearby.
The seeds are widely used as beads for necklaces, bracelets, rosaries etc., as marbles, and are also used as weights and as counters in board games.
