Vigorous herbaceous perennial plant 25 m tall, growing from rhizomatous rootstock leaves erect, grass-like flower cylindrical spike, divided into a male part at the top and brownish female part below

Ornamental grasses. Food (Rhizomes and young shoots) .leaves woven into mats, ropes, baskets, hats paper. Wetland restoration, soil stabilization, wastewater treatment. The plant produces a large amount of biomass that can be used for fuel, compost, or biofuels. the leaves grazed  by sheep, goats and cattle.
