Dioecious cycad, 6 m high, 30 cm in diameter leaves pinnate 3 m long, leaflets leathery 20-35 cm long, 30 mm wide, with 2-3 spiny teeth at the end, margins with up to 9 spreading teeth female cones 1-4, cylindrical, 28-60 cm long, 15-25 cm in diameter male cones 1-7 spindle shaped 20-50 cm long, 5-9 cm in diameter    

 Grown as an ornamental. Habitat destruction as a result of urban expansion, coastal resort development, and agricultural expansion is having a direct impact on this species. Former large sub populations of the species have been lost as result.
