Evergreen  dioecious cycad, grow up to 3 m tall, 20 cm in diameter leaves pinnate about 50-100 cm long, leaflets are 8–18 cm long and have strongly recurved or revolute edges,  basal leaflets become more like spines female plants will not produce seed without a nearby male, orbicular female cones produce vermilion seeds, males produce upright yellowish ellipsoid pollen cones 30 -45 cm long
