Perennial bulb,  leaves green, simple, lanceolate, 30-120 cm long, 5-75 cm wide flowers appear in umbrels of 2-6 , They have long narrow separated petals that curve back They are white to blush pink with long purple stamens and anthers extending outward 

Like the banana leaf and many others, the Swamp Lilly leaf can also be used to carry food. Young leaves are reportedly edible.
